A little bit more about me

How my yoga journey began

Growing up, I was lucky enough to live in Devon. I practised many sports from rowing, football, cycling and racket sports. This gave me so much, including mental headspace, a community of friends and physical fitness.

I moved to London for university. In order to continue playing sports I had to travel long distances. Working full time in a corporate job with long hours, this became even harder. The only realistic option was to go to the local gym where they were running yoga classes.

So, my yoga journey began as a way to 'fill the hole' that used to be filled with sports. It became a coping mechanism for the daily stresses of working life and living in a huge international city. With dedication and repetition, I found that the practice helped all aspects of my life. These showed up as:

  • physical strength
  • increased focus and attention
  • resilience
  • a calmer mind
  • and more...

My practice now

I dabbled in Bikram, Ashtanga and Hatha, but the flowing nature of Vinyasa resonated the most with me. Now, I practise many forms of yoga including vinyasa, mandala vinyasa and yin.

Yoga is all about connections and being in nature is where I feel most connected to myself, the world and others. I take my yoga practice outside as much as I can: to the garden, the beach, hilltops and more.

The style of yoga I teach

I teach vinyasa and flow to restore. The vinyasa style of yoga directly stems from ashtanga vinyasa and the "Ashtanga 8 limbs of yoga". All of my classes are rooted in science (anatomy / physiology / neuroscience) and philosophy of yoga. I have always had a deep passion for science of the body having studied Natural Sciences at university. In particular, I specialised in neuroscience which is a great complement to yoga as so much of yoga is about your mind as well as your body.

Outside of yoga

Alongside yoga, I work for health companies and charities who are aiming to improve the health of the UK. Most recently I worked at Our Future Health, the UK's largest health research programme.

On weekends, you'll mostly find me exploring. Living in Wales, I spend my time up in the Brecon Beacons, Gower, Pembrokeshire and occasionally Eryri/Snowdonia. I love exploring on foot, bike and in the water.
